A new website is encouraging people to transform their local area with the help of microforests.
Born out of a simple but powerful idea, The Microforest Collective believes local communities have the power to shape their own environments and help manage the long-term change in climate.
The website – Microforest Collective – started with a shared vision from Edwina Robinson, Mitch Porteous, Liz Adcock, and Purdie Bowden. Together, they built on work done by The Climate Factory in Canberra, Queanbeyan, and Moruya.
The pilot projects have have had real success in improving local environments and nurturing a sense of community and collective purpose.
The idea isn’t just to plant trees. The aim is for residents to reclaim their local spaces and create lasting legacies for future generations.
The website features previous and current projects, invites involvement, and offers several ways to get in touch.
As the website says: ‘The Microforest Collective provides emerging community leaders with the tools they need to bring a microforest to life in their local space’.
