Spring monitoring has revealed an incredible range of native species making use of proven habitat across Habitec’s project sites: carved hollows.

These observations highlight the success of arborists integrating hollow creation into their tree-management practices.

Carved hollows offer a natural, long-lasting alternative to nest boxes, providing immediate habitat for hollow-dependent fauna while retaining valuable trees in the landscape. From boobook owls, sugar gliders, and brushtail possums to microbats, galahs, cockatoos, wood ducks, and lorikeets, there are a wide range of species who benefit.

Habitec’s new publication, Carved Hollow Creation, shares the tools, and field techniques behind this emerging conservation practice, empowering arborists and land managers to create proven habitat outcomes through skilled arboricultural work.
