IP Australia will apply fee increases or some businesses soon.
The fee increases will be to allow the continued covering of costs associated with administering intellectual property (IP) rights and related legislation.
The changes will take effect from October 1, 2024. The new fees, and changes to the amounts awarded in patents, trade marks or design rights proceedings, are the result of a 15-month review.
Domain name costs increasing
Businesses with a website that ends in just .au may be affected by the wholesale price increase for .au domains. Websites that end in .com.au are not affected.
From Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the wholesale price of an .au domain name licence will increase from $7.78 to $8.45 (ex GST) per year. The wholesale price change reflects inflation-based cost pressures to administer the .au domain.
