Author of Planting Ideas in the Urban Forest, Dr Mark Johnston MBE, FArborA (Hon), FCIHort, FICFor, will speak at public seminars In Sydney and Melbourne.
An independent scholar of arboriculture, landscape and urban forestry, Mark has a PhD in urban forestry and is a fellow of the professional bodies for arboriculture, forestry and horticulture. Mark has over fifty years’ experience in the ‘tree world’, including working as a tree surgery contractor, tree officer in local government, consultant in private practice, government adviser and university academic.
Mark’s contribution to trees and the urban environment has been widely acknowledged with several prestigious national and international awards. This includes an MBE in 2007 for his role in the development of urban forestry in Britain and Northern Ireland. In 2008, he was the first person from Britain or Ireland to receive the International Society of Arboriculture’s Award of Merit, the highest honour it can bestow.

The talk in Melbourne will take place on Monday, November 10, at the RMIT University, 3.00 – 4.30 pm. The event is entitled Belfast to Brunswick: Urban Greening is a People Job.
